Chinese New Year is a major festival for Chinese communities around the world. Sands China continues to carry forward the spirit of Sands Cares by turning seasonal blessings into community outreach through its annual “Sands Cares Spring Celebrations with the Community” – bringing warmth to the community in celebration of the Year of the Horse.

This year’s event was held on 3 February, with senior management from Las Vegas Sands and Sands China gathering in Macau to join team members in the activities. By taking part in person, the management team demonstrated its commitment to corporate social responsibility while also showing respect for Chinese culture.
Patrick Dumont, President and Chief Operating Officer of Las Vegas Sands, together with senior management, joined approximately 300 participants – including employees from 20 Sands China departments and members of the Sands Cares Ambassador volunteer team – in preparing Lunar New Year gift packs and writing festive fai chun.

Working together, participants packaged more than 20,000 items of staple foods, cooking oil and daily necessities into 2,000 Lunar New Year gift packs. The initiative transformed festive goodwill into practical support for families and elderly people in need.
During the event, Dumont and members of the management team also embraced local New Year customs by learning to write fai chun, appreciating the auspicious meaning carried by the Chinese character “Fu” (福). They delivered New Year greetings to employees and volunteers in both Cantonese and Mandarin, creating a festive atmosphere filled with laughter and celebratory cheer.
Participants packaged more than 20,000 items of daily necessities into 2,000 LNY gift packs.
Sands China’s commitment to standing with the community also extends to supporting the development of local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Dumont and the management team recently visited Rua das Estalagens, offering early New Year greetings to shop owners along the street and visiting SME stores supported by the company’s “Rua das Estalagens Entrepreneurship Recruitment Programme”. They exchanged views with business owners, learned about their operations and wished them a prosperous and smooth year ahead.

Dumont and the senior management team said they are proud of Sands China’s long-standing role as a responsible corporate citizen. They also praised the volunteer team’s sustained dedication and enthusiasm in serving the community, encouraging more team members to participate in volunteer programs and extend care to more parts of the Macau community.
The Sands Cares Ambassador volunteer team is among the earliest corporate volunteer teams established in Macau’s integrated resort industry. To date, more than 4,000 team members have participated, contributing over 360,000 cumulative volunteer hours. The company noted that the team organized four community care activities each week on average last year, maintaining close ties with different community groups and building long-term partnerships.

Now an annual community tradition spanning nearly two decades, “Sands Cares Spring Celebrations with the Community” has become richer this year in both participation and cultural exchange. In collaboration with multiple social service organizations, the initiative delivered support to local elderly and underprivileged groups. The event saw 2,000 Lunar New Year gift packs and 1,000 meal boxes distributed, while 200 elderly people living alone were visited. Through cooperation with social enterprises, employment opportunities for persons with disabilities were created, allowing care to circulate throughout the community.
Sands China said it will continue to advance the Sands Cares program by working with local charities and social service organizations, giving back to society through practical action and promoting community inclusion.
