MGM Macau continues to integrate the concept of “originality + innovation” into its cultural tourism experiences, advancing the contemporary presentation and international promotion of outstanding traditional Chinese culture through a wide range of arts and cultural initiatives. Following the launch of the large-scale “Silk Road Beyond Borders ” exhibition at the POLY MGM MUSEUM last October, the Museum will introduce an extension program, Museum Encounter – The Tang Story, an immersive themed journey beginning on 28 February.

Designed for cross-generational participation, the program combines exhibition content with interactive storytelling, inviting visitors to “watch while performing, walk while listening” inside the museum and to discover the Tang dynasty and Silk Road exchanges in a more relatable way.
According to the organizer, Museum Encounter is built around the core concept of a “living museum”, moving beyond conventional static exhibition viewing. Professional performers will serve as guides and portray various historical characters, leading audiences through different zones and moments across the museum.

Drawing inspiration from cinematic storytelling and immersive theater, the program transforms the historical setting, character landscape and Silk Road interactions of the Tang era into an experiential, multi-thread narrative. Grounded in the artifacts and themes of the museum’s current “Silk Road” exhibition, hundreds of exhibits become “plot clues” as the story unfolds.
Museum Encounter is built around the core concept of a “living museum”, moving beyond conventional static exhibition viewing.
As they move through the journey, visitors will interact with characters and complete scenario-based tasks, shifting from “observers” to “participants”. Through a route that can be experienced firsthand, audiences are invited to step into the Silk Road narrative and feel the historical warmth of civilizational exchange and mutual learning. The themed journey will run every Saturday and Sunday starting 28 February, with tickets officially on sale as of 11 February.

The POLY MGM MUSEUM noted that the “Silk Road” exhibition traces historical treasures along the overland Silk Road across the Eurasian continent, focusing on exchanges between Eastern and Western civilizations. Presented through four thematic chapters, the exhibition brings together more than 200 rare artifacts, portraying the historical panorama of millennia-long cultural interaction along the Silk Road. The museum plans to continue rolling out a variety of arts and cultural programs inspired by the exhibition, offering audiences of different age groups immersive experiences that transcend time and deepen understanding of Chinese civilization and the history of global exchange.

MGM said will continue to position the POLY MGM MUSEUM as a platform to strengthen collaboration with partners across sectors, further expanding cultural tourism offerings that combine depth and breadth. These efforts aim to support Macau’s development as a platform for exchange and cooperation where “Chinese culture serves as the mainstream and diverse cultures coexist.”

According to MGM, Museum Encounter – The Tang Story will be held on Saturdays and Sundays, with two sessions each evening from 7pm to 8pm and from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. The program will take place at the POLY MGM MUSEUM on Level 2 of MGM MACAU, with sessions available in Mandarin and Cantonese.
Ticket pricing is set at MOP 100 for a single package (one adult admission, with one child aged 12 or under admitted free) and MOP 150 for a double package (two adults admission, with up to two children aged 12 or under admitted free). The program is recommended for ages 5 and above. Tickets will be available through MGM’s official ticketing channels, the box office at MGM COTAI, and partner platforms including UUTIX, Maoyan, Damai, and C-trip.
