Wynn and MUST sign MOU sharing vision of fostering global talent

  • Wynn and MUST signed an MOU to jointly launch an international student recruitment program.
  • Wynn will finance around 30 scholarships each academic year, aiming to support Macau’s tertiary institutions in nurturing diversified talent.

In response to the national strategy to promote the diversification of Macau’s industries, Wynn and the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 20 May to jointly launch an international student recruitment program. The program aims to provide scholarships for overseas students pursuing specific master’s degrees.

The signing ceremony took place at Wynn Palace, with Kong Chi Meng, Director of the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), witnessing the collaboration.

Linda Chen, President, Vice Chairman and Executive Director of Wynn Macau Ltd and Chair Professor Joseph Lee, Vice-Chancellor and President of MUST, jointly signed the MOU.

According to the agreement, Wynn will finance around 30 scholarships for international postgraduate students at MUST every academic year, with each scholarship covering two academic years and providing a grant of MOP 50,000 per academic year. Through this scholarship program, Wynn aims to support Macau’s higher education institutions in cultivating talent in fields such as cultural arts, film and entertainment, modern finance and high-tech industries while promoting the transfer and exchange of international knowledge.

In her speech, Chen said, “This collaboration is not only an active response to the Macao SAR Government’s ‘1+4’ adequate economic diversification drive but also marks a strategic breakthrough in the in-depth industry-academia integration.”

She also mentioned that through the establishment of a special scholarship mechanism, both parties hope to focus on cultivating international talent in innovation and intelligence, providing a strategic talent reserve for Macau to develop into a world-class exchange platform for innovative talent where diverse cultures thrive in harmony.

Lee noted in his address that the establishment of the scholarship is a concrete manifestation of support for Macau’s “1+4” diversified development strategy.

“This scholarship will greatly help to attract students from Portuguese-speaking countries and countries and regions joining the Belt and Road initiative to further their studies in Macau,” he said.
