This year, MGM once again served as a “super connector,” bringing together cultural resources from Hong Kong and the international arts community by inviting Macau cultural leaders, arts practitioners and university faculty and students to attend Art Basel Hong Kong. Through exclusive guided tours and dialogue sessions, participants were able to experience world-class artworks up close and gain insights into international art market dynamics.

“Conversations” talks program

On 26 March, MGM led a delegation of more than 20 Macau cultural leaders, artists and industry representatives to the VIP preview, where they engaged in exchanges with representatives from participating galleries.

The following day, MGM welcomed around 30 young local arts professionals, as well as arts students and faculty members, to visit the fair and join the “Conversations” talk series. They heard perspectives shared by renowned collectors and arts leaders including Saeb Eigner and Uli Sigg. The discussions explored topics ranging from art collecting and cultural diplomacy to cross-regional exchange, helping participants trace the development of Asian art and deepen their understanding of the global arts ecosystem and the international art market.

“MGM remains committed to leveraging Macau’s unique role as a vital gateway for cultural exchange between East and West.”

Kenneth Feng, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, said, “MGM remains committed to leveraging Macau’s unique role as a vital gateway for cultural exchange between East and West. Through our global network, we continue to create platforms that connect Macau’s arts community with the world, helping industry professionals gain deeper insights into global art market trends and the practical dynamics of the art economy, and further broaden their development space.”

Beyond talent exchange, MGM also showcased Macau’s cultural tourism projects at the fair through a technology-driven presentation. This year, MGM partnered with BOE, a global leader in display technology, to present an “M-shaped” four-fold high-definition, small-pixel-pitch LED display at MGM’s dedicated booth. Combined with cutting-edge naked-eye 3D technology, the installation brought to life a range of Macau cultural tourism content, highlighting to the international arts community the city’s integrated “culture + tourism + technology” development.

The booth featured emblematic artefacts from the POLY MGM MUSEUM “Silk Roads Beyond Borders” exhibition – including the Blue-and-White Moon Flask with Strap Handles and the Dragon-Patterned Throne Carpet – alongside modern and contemporary artworks. Highlights from MGM’s resident production show Macau 2049, which blends intangible cultural heritage with modern technology, were also re-created on the screen.
