Organized by the Macau Internet Communication Association (MICA), the “Hiking Tourism Craze and Hiking CityPanda IP Launch” was held on 26 April at The Macao International Travel Exhibition 2025 (MITE) at Cotai Expo.

The event aimed to promote the cross-border integration of Macau’s cultural tourism and encourage the participation of all sectors in the construction of cultural tourism.

Themed “City Walk”, the event explored opportunities to revitalize the old districts and combine them with innovative ways of online communication. It started from the neighborhood of St. Paul’s, with a focus on Rua de Cinco de Outubro, Rua dos Ervanarios and Rua das Estalagens, which were named the “Macau Speciality City Market Area”.

A “Macau Speciality City Market Area” map and audio-visual signage “Hiking Tourism Craze walk853” were also displayed at the event, providing visitors with practical guidance and an interactive platform. The debut of the “Hiking CityPanda” also caught everyone’s attention, as this adorable character became a new business card for exploring the city.

The event also featured a roundtable discussion on the theme of “Communication for revitalization of old districts”, moderated by Kalas Lei, Executive Director of MICA, in which participants explored in-depth strategies for revitalizing old districts.

Ken Ao, Chairman of MICA, said, “With the rapid development of new media and AI technology, the association plans to create a walking map of Macau’s distinctive city market districts and to launch a walking tour on audio-visual platforms, encouraging citizens and tourists to share their city market experiences.”

The event highlights Macau’s position as a “World Center for Tourism and Leisure” and promotes the deep integration of the culture and tourism industry through the innovative mode of “Hiking + Culture + Gourmet”.

The organizers indicated that they would continue to launch a series of activities in the future, encouraging citizens and tourists to explore the unique charm of Macau with their feet and contributing to the high-quality development of the cultural and tourism industry.
