- Sands China held the 2025 Sands Cares Disaster Preparation & Emergency Response Kit Programme in June.
- The initiative aims to strengthen students’ and the community’s awareness of natural disasters and foster a proactive attitude towards emergency response.
Sands China concluded its 2025 Sands Cares Disaster Preparation & Emergency Response Kit Programme in June, distributing 1,500 custom-designed emergency kits and delivering a series of disaster preparation workshops at local schools.
The annual initiative, now in its seventh year, aims to strengthen community resilience ahead of typhoon season by providing essential resources and education on disaster and emergency readiness.
In partnership with Macau Red Cross, the program has benefited 7,400 households since its inception in 2019. This year, for the second time, Sands China hosted workshops in primary schools, introducing disaster preparedness to students at an early age. The six interactive workshops were conducted by Macau Red Cross, using games and puppetry to engage students on topics such as disaster history in Macau, emergency shelters, reliable information sources and practical preparedness at home.
Dr Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China, expressed gratitude to the Macau Red Cross, local government agencies and the company’s Sands Cares Ambassador volunteers for their ongoing support and collaboration.
The 1,500 emergency response kits, assembled by 38 Sands Cares Ambassadors at the Macau Red Cross headquarters, include items such as first aid packs, disinfectant wipes, whistles, rain ponchos, facemasks, a dual-powered emergency radio and government emergency response leaflets. An emergency blanket was added this year as a new item to the kit to guard against hypothermia. Sands Cares Ambassadors distributed the completed kits to local schools vulnerable to storm surges in Macao’s low-lying areas, helping cultivate primary students’ awareness of disaster readiness and teaching them how to deal with emergency situations from an early age.
Sands China’s community initiatives and the Sands Cares Ambassador program for volunteerism are part of the Sands Cares global corporate citizenship program.
