Macau Tower Chinese New Year Charity Walk returns

Macau Tower Chinese New Year Charity Walk returns post-pandemic

Macau Tower successfully held its long awaited Chinese New Year Charity Walk on the third day of the Lunar New Year (January 24). A total of more than 1,500 participants successfully climbed the tower on the day, in addition to praying for the new year and successfully raising money for the Macau Red Cross.

The “ascend to the top” charity walk organized by the Macau Tower has been held on the third day of the Lunar New Year annually since 2009. The event was temporarily suspended due to the pandemic but this year the relaxation of anti-pandemic policies allowed the event to resume.

The tower climb attracts thousands of participants every year, and has become the highlight of the new year at Macau Tower. The activity is divided into three groups; youth, women’s and open. Participants need to climb 1,298 stairs to the 61st floor of the tower to compete for the title of the fastest climber.

Mr Francis Lam, Executive Manager of Macau Tower, said, “Macau Tower is a famous landmark in Macau. We hope that through this new year’s event, participants can not only celebrate Chinese New Year, but also raise funds for those in need and care for the community.”

This year, the fastest ascent champions in the youth group and the open group were won by a pair of brothers, with a time of 8 minutes 51 seconds and 8 minutes 52 seconds. The women’s champion time was 11 minutes and 44 seconds.
