On Wednesday 10 May, the Rui Cunha Foundation and members of the Arts, Painting and Calligraphy Friendship Association of Macau jointly launched a unique calligraphy and painting exhibition called “Eventful Years”.
The exhibition was curated by Lee Chau Ping, who selected 43 artworks from 28 artists, including masters and apprentices of these traditional Chinese arts. Most of the artworks, primarily high standard Chinese ink paintings, were shown for the very first time and comprised themes including flowers, birds, fish, insects, landscapes and elements of calligraphy.
The exhibition will remain open until Saturday 20 May.
Lee Chau Ping is known as a disciple of the artistic style of the Lingnan School of Painting. Born in 1959, his passion for the arts emerged during his childhood, having first learned Chinese painting and calligraphy under his father’s influence when he was about six years old.
Lee began his career as an interior designer, graduating from the Hong Kong Institute of Design and Industry. His academic path then took him to the world of design and business management. He earned a Master of Business Administration from the Canadian Public Royal University, a PhD in Management at Princeton University and a degree in Business Administration at the Renmin University of China.
Now 64, Lee is also licensed in and has practiced Chinese Medicine since 1999.
The Arts, Painting and Calligraphy Friendship Association of Macau was established in 2000 and has been committed to promoting artistic activities in Macau.
The Rui Cunha Foundation, established by Rui José da Cunha and his sons, aims to contribute to the development of the Macau SAR and its people by undertaking philanthropic and cultural works.
