  • At this year’s MIECF, Wynn showcased an array of innovative environmental initiatives.
  • Wynn has been proactively hosting procurement partnership meetings with local SMEs since 2016.

From 28 to 30 March 2024, Macau concessionaire Wynn actively supported and participated in the prestigious annual “Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition” (MIECF), a flagship event organized by the Macau SAR government. Notably, Wynn seized the opportunity to host the “2024 Wynn Local SME Procurement Partnership Meeting and Recycling Shredded Playing Cards Project Signing Ceremony” at its designated exhibition area.

Wynn’s commitment to environmental sustainability was evident throughout the event. The company emphasized its ongoing efforts to implement eco-friendly initiatives within its operations, setting higher standards for sustainable development within the industry. With a vision for a greener Macau, Wynn aims to forge partnerships with local enterprises, creating avenues for green business expansion, industry diversification and long-term sustainable growth.

At this year’s MIECF, Wynn showcased an array of innovative environmental initiatives. The exhibition area featured striking displays, including a magnificent wall with giant hot air balloons crafted from recycled coffee capsules, and decorative floral decorations made from repurposed masks. Additionally, Wynn demonstrated its support for local SMEs and creative enterprises by promoting the use of recycled textile waste to produce regenerated yarn and transforming discarded wool into fashionable products.

Highlighting its commitment to youth empowerment and innovation, Wynn sponsored the Macau Pui Ching Middle School team, who showcased their groundbreaking research projects. These projects included the extraction of essential oils from floral waste using synthetic biology methods and the application of artificial intelligence for waste identification and classification.

To further promote a greener Macau community, Wynn has also invited local cultural and creative enterprises to conduct environmental workshops, where old yarn and recycled paper were used to make creative handicrafts.

Moreover, The three-day negotiation meetings provided an opportunity for Wynn procurement specialists to engage with representatives from many sustainable and innovative local SMEs to jointly explore potential cooperation opportunities that will lead to mutually beneficial and successful environmental projects in future.

With the support of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), Wynn partnered with a local SME for the recycling of shredded playing cards into raw materials for paper products, which led it to becoming the first integrated resort in Macau to transform shredded playing cards into recycled pulp.

Wynn said it has been proactively hosting procurement partnership meetings with local SMEs since 2016. This year’s meeting attracted nearly 170 local SMEs to register for appointments, reflecting the demand of SMEs for market expansion. The company prioritizes local procurement and is committed to promoting the continuous development of local SMEs.

In 2023, Wynn’s total procurement from local SMEs increased by 89% compared to the same period in 2022, with procurement from the “Three Types of Enterprises” – Small and Micro Enterprises, “Made in Macau” Companies and Macao Young Entrepreneurs – recording 87% growth over 2022.
