  • Melco will bring the “FISE: Battle of the Champions” skateboarding event to Macau and the Greater Bay Area for the first time.
  • The event demonstrates Melco’s commitment to the delivery of world-class events and performances.

Melco has announced that the world-renowned “International Festival of Extreme Sports (FISE): Battle of the Champions (BOTC) 2025”, co-organized by Melco Resorts & Entertainment, Rakuten Sports and Hurricane Group, will be held in March next year. The event will be the first of its kind to be held in Macau and the Greater Bay Area.

At a press conference held at Melco’s Studio City in mid-July, the organizers unveiled details of the “FISE: BOTC 2025, Macau”, stating that the Macau stop will feature an all-new and exciting competition format, with the world’s top skateboarders invited to compete in one-on-one battle tournaments. A panel of professional judges will select the first-ever champion of the Macau event.

The FISE World Series is the world’s largest comprehensive extreme sports event, comprising nine extreme sports including Rock Climbing, Skateboarding, BMX Freestyle Park and Breaking. The FISE World Series began in 2014 in Montpellier and has since been held in 12 cities worldwide, including in China, Japan, Canada, the United States, Malaysia, Hungary and Andorra, with 500 top athletes from 30 countries and regions participating every year. The series draws over one million spectators annually.

Clarence Chung, Melco Board Director

Mr Clarence Chung, Melco Board Director, said, “We are excited to introduce ‘FISE: BOTC 2025, Macau’ as the first event of its kind to ever take place in Macau and the Greater Bay Area. The festival will combine sports and youth culture in a vibrant festival atmosphere to appeal to both locals and visitors, while demonstrating Melco’s steadfast commitment to bringing world class events and performances to Macau.

“We continue to support the government’s ‘1+4’ development strategy by diversifying event offerings to include sports, health and fitness. To further enhance the city’s status as a diversified destination, Studio City’s upcoming Skateboard Park is set to be an ideal venue for the hosting of similar urban sports events.”

Emerging skateboarding athletes from mainland China, including the first Chinese professional skater to participate in the legendary Tampa Pro 2024 Contest, Pan Jia Jie, and young female skateboarder Liang Wen Min (Xiao Min), attended the press conference. Pan and Liang were joined by Macau’s local skateboarding community, who together took part in several thrilling performances before a packed audience at Studio City’s Times Square.

Skateboarding is a rapidly developing mainstream sport that has gained widespread popularity. Since becoming an official Olympic sport at the last Tokyo Olympics, its influence and culture have extended into broader cultural fields and continue to grow.

Melco stated that to support the development of this sport locally, the company will soon open a Skateboard Park at Studio City, providing a well-equipped venue for skateboarding enthusiasts. The initiative aims to showcase Macau’s unique “Tourism +” appeal, attract more international visitors and further establish Macau as a sport-friendly destination.
