MGM China has announced that the “2024 MGM Macau Tennis Masters” is set to return this December with a pioneering format, showcasing Asia’s first mixed-gender team competition. Scheduled for 24 and 25 December at the Macao Forum, the tournament will feature six elite players split into two teams, led by tennis legends Li Na and Michael Chang.
During a recent press conference, the organizers unveiled the roster of participants, which includes ATP luminaries Casper Ruud, Lorenzo Musetti, Shang Juncheng (Jerry) and Andrey Rublev. These athletes are among the elite in tennis, with Ruud and Rublev ranked in the top 10 and Musetti in the top 20. The prodigious “Jerry” Shang is the youngest in the men’s top 50. The event will also feature WTA stars including China’s Wang Xinyu and Karolina Muchova from Czechia.
The competition will employ a best-of-three sets format, with a super tie-break deciding the final set, requiring players to score at least 10 points with a two-point lead. The action kicks off at 1pm on 24 December, starting with one mixed doubles and two men’s singles matches. The competition continues the next day at the same time with one women’s singles and two men’s singles matches, concluding with an awards ceremony.
Kenneth Feng, President and Executive Director of MGM China, reflected on the success of the inaugural Tennis Masters, co-organized with IMG last year, which attracted a global audience to Macau thanks to its high-caliber line-up. He expressed enthusiasm about hosting the highly anticipated competition again, particularly during the festive season, and highlighted the event’s role in fostering the synergy between sports and tourism, which has been instrumental in developing a unique sports event brand for Macau and reinforcing the city’s status as a “City of Sports” and a hub for world-class elite sports events.
