- Melco will relaunch its popular resident show The House of Dancing Water in Macau this May.
- The show’s return aims to further enhance the existing artistic landscape of Melco’s City of Dreams.
Melco Resorts & Entertainment (Melco) recently announced that its popular resident show, House of Dancing Water, will return in May this year with a revamped presentation. The performance is set to offer “captivating visual spectacles and dynamic energy, reigniting the audience’s sensory imagination and launching an unprecedented epic aquatic adventure”, according to the company.
The announcement came during a press conference held on 28 February at Morpheus in City of Dreams Macau, with tickets set to go on sale from 10 March.
The House of Dancing Water debuted in Macau in September 2010, becoming one of the city’s earliest and most celebrated resident shows. It was temporarily closed in June 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, its return has been highly anticipated, with Melco addressing questions about the show’s comeback on multiple occasions. The company previously noted that significant preparations were required at the House of Dancing Water theater, including the reinstallation of key equipment.
The original version of The House of Dancing Water, created by Italian theater director Franco Dragone, ran for nearly 4,000 performances since its debut and was seen by over 6 million people. It was widely regarded as one of the most imaginative and impactful productions globally.
According to Melco, the updated version of the show features nearly 300 performers and crew members from over 30 countries. It is directed by Giuliano Peparini, Artistic Director of Peparini Studios, and produced by the Our Legacy Creations team.
While retaining the essence of the original, the reimagined House of Dancing Water introduces a narrative style more aligned with contemporary artistic trends. Enhanced with richer scenes and cutting-edge stage effects, the production aims to heighten visual impact and immersion, blending acrobatics, dance, stunts, and theatrical performance into what Melco describes as a remarkable visual arts experience.
The large-scale aquatic show has a budget exceeding HK$2 billion (over US$ 250 million). The storyline centers on a romantic love story, aiming to evoke deep emotional resonance with audiences through innovative performance art and boundary-pushing physical expression.
The show’s theater design also stands out, featuring a 270-degree theater-in-the-round host venue that offers a crucible of cutting-edge stage technology, advanced water systems, hydraulic elevators and precision lighting, along with sophisticated projection technology and LED screens to ensure an all-around unparalleled visual experience. According to Melco, House of Dancing Water breaks and redefines the limits of “show” and recreates an immersive aquatic extravaganza full of infinite possibilities.
On the day of the press conference, key performers appeared in their costumes for an impressive showcase. Guests were also invited backstage for an exclusive preview tour of the production facilities.
Melco emphasized that House of Dancing Water, regarded as a “brainchild” of Chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho, will further enrich the cultural offerings at City of Dreams Macau, and contribute to the development and prosperity of the Macau SAR’s arts and culture scene.
It is reported that The House of Dancing Water will schedule eight to nine performances per week from Friday to Tuesday .
