Representatives from Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) and the Science Education Promotion Association of Macau (SEPAM) recently visited O Lam, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, to report on the “GEG Astronomy Cup – The 1st Macau International Youth Astronomy Competition” and the achievements of science education for young people in Macau.
The competition is organized by SEPAM and title-sponsored by GEG.
During the visit, the attendees also exchanged views on the long-term planning of artificial intelligence in education and science education.
O Lam expressed her high recognition of the report and encouraged all parties to actively promote the development of science education for young people. She also encouraged the award-winning students to continue their exploration and become the future pillars of Macau.
Jessica Cheng, President of SEPAM, noted that the “GEG Astronomy Cup – The 1st Macau International Youth Astronomy Competition” was successfully held in late April, attracting over 1,000 students from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Southeast Asia. Nearly 250 students were awarded prizes, with over 60 being local Macau students. Among them, Leong Chi Kin from Saint Paul School, one of the 12 representatives from Macau, participated in the Ministry of Education’s whitelist competition, the “Chinese National Astronomy Olympiad” held earlier in Shantou, and received an Encouragement Award (Fourth Prize), achieving the best result for Macau participants.
Buddy Lam, Director of Corporate Affairs of GEG, said the company is committed to cultivating diverse young talent and integrating technological innovation into relevant projects, aiming to guide young people in understanding the nation’s scientific research and innovation development.
The “GEG Astronomy Cup – The 1st Macau International Youth Astronomy Competition” was fully sponsored by GEG, covering training, equipment and post-competition workshops, with related activities already launched in some schools.
