“SJM Presents: Culture City of East Asia Lantern Festival” Now Open

  • The lantern festival will illuminate Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau and Hong Kung Temple Square until 23 November.
  • This year’s festival brings together four distinguished artists from the Culture Cities of East Asia.

SJM Resorts, S.A. has partnered with the Macau Artist Society for the fourth consecutive year to present the “SJM Presents: Culture City of East Asia Lantern Festival”. The exhibition is now open and will illuminate Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau and Hong Kung Temple Square until 23 November.

As part of the programme of the “Culture City of East Asia 2025 – Macao, China” and supported by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and the Macao Government Tourism Office,

this year’s exhibition brings together four distinguished artists from the Cultural Cities of East Asia: Lyu Weiguo, a master brush-maker from Huzhou, China; Leong Kit Man, a cross-media artist from Macau; Ayumi Muramatsu, a contemporary calligrapher from Kamakura, Japan; and DHAL, a graffiti artist from Anseong, South Korea.

At the kick-off ceremony, Muramatsu joined local percussionist Uly for a live cross-disciplinary performance, blending calligraphy and music into a captivating audiovisual experience. As a gesture of appreciation, SJM presented handcrafted Huzhou brushes by master artisan Lyu to the event’s supporting units.

Daisy Ho, Managing Director of SJM, remarked, “SJM has always regarded cultural heritage and tourism development as intertwined missions. We are honored to collaborate with the Macau Artist Society on this meaningful exhibition for the fourth consecutive year, which highlights Macau as a cultural tourism destination rooted in tradition, alive with spirit and connected to the global stage.”

“This year’s lantern exhibition, expressed through the medium of light, pays tribute to the shared traditions of China, Japan and Korea, while also celebrating the distinctive artistic voices of each culture. It underscores the power of art as a universal language.”

The exhibition features a series of related activities, including parent-child art workshops and artist sharing session at Grand Lisboa Palace, while the public can also enjoy lantern-making workshops and riddle game booths at Hong Kung Temple Square and Kam Pek Market on the eve of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
