UM Museum of Art opened on 16 May

The University of Macau (UM) Museum of Art officially opened on Tuesday 16 May. It is currently exhibiting 60 art works, including art works from the University’s existing collection and faculty members, providing a platform for teachers, staff, students and the public to display and appreciate artistic creations.

During the opening ceremony, Song Yonghua, Rector of the University of Macau, said that the art museum will regularly exhibit the educational achievements of the University’s Department of Arts and Design, and at the same time provide a platform for art creation display and exchange for the community of UM and Macau residents.

Song Yonghua said, “the opening of this art museum will undoubtedly cultivate art talent for the University of Macau, create a better art environment, and bring a new aesthetic experience to the public.”

The UM Museum of Art is located in Zone C on the first and second floors of the Wu Yee Sun Library at the University of Macau. The current exhibition will be open to the public until 31 July. The exhibition showcases more than 30 pieces of calligraphy, paintings, manuscripts, porcelain and furniture from the late Qing Dynasty, as well as 26 art work pieces created by faculty members. These art works include oil painting, traditional Chinese painting, calligraphy, sculpture, sketches, photography and video.
