- Wynn hosted the world’s largest Chinese wine competition using international standards.
- The awards aim to elevate the global recognition of Chinese wines and enhance the understanding and appreciation of Chinese wines worldwide.
The first “Wynn Signature Chinese Wine Awards” took place from 1 to 5 March at Wynn Macau and Wynn Palace. The event saw 27 internationally acclaimed judges from both the Old and New World wine regions assemble, including seven Masters of Wine, who gathered in Macau to conduct blind tastings during the event. Nearly 200 wineries from Mainland China, known for producing top-tier Chinese wines, competed for honors in this region’s largest wine competition using international standards to evaluate the Chinese wines.
The wineries competed for the Wynn Signature Best Wine of China Trophy alongside 29 other trophies in recognition of excellence in varietal expressions and regionality. Throughout the five-day event, Wynn also hosted four Wine Masterclass sessions, led by China’s most influential wine experts and renowned wine authors, as well as exclusive gastronomic experiences with world-renowned judges and leading experts in wine. Guests also had the opportunity to experience exclusive gastronomic dinners with world-renowned wine experts throughout the event.
Ms Linda Chen, President, Vice Chairman and Executive Director of Wynn, said she hoped the event helped “create an exclusive stage where premium Chinese wines are showcased internationally and continue to build on Macau’s status as a UNESCO-designated Creative City of Gastronomy.”
The prestigious panel of judges included Masters of Wines, Master Sommeliers, winemakers, educators, journalists, hoteliers and wine buyers. The judging process was conducted blind under the international 100-point system whereby medals were allocated to wines based on a tiered scoring system. To protect the integrity of the awards, Wynn appointed a professional external auditing firm to conduct random background inspections of wineries that submitted their wines, whilst also qualifying the accuracy of the judges’ scores.
The aim of the awards is to elevate the global recognition of Chinese wines and enhance the understanding and appreciation of Chinese wines worldwide through Wynn’s rigorous commitment to quality and taste.
