The “2024 Wynn Local SME Procurement Partnership Meeting and SME Equipment Improvement Program Sharing Session” was held in early July at the Wynn Macau Grand Ballroom.
The event attracted representatives from approximately 200 local SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises). Wynn’s procurement team held face-to-face meetings with representatives from Macau suppliers to explore cooperation opportunities.
Wynn also shared the initial results of the “SME Equipment Improvement Program”, expressing gratitude to the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR as well as to the Macau government – particularly the Economic and Technological Development Bureau – local industries, and stakeholders for their continued support of the program.
In addition, to support local companies in integrating ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) core values into their business operations, Wynn hosted the “Macao SME Training Series – Exploring Opportunities in the Seafood Industry” on the same afternoon. The event featured keynote speakers including Guilherme Martins, Director of Sustainability at Wynn Macau and Wynn Palace; Stan Shea, Marine Programme Director of BLOOM Association Hong Kong; Mandy Wong, Secretariat for the Hong Kong Sustainable Seafood Coalition; and Hans Lee, General Manager of the Educational Restaurant at the Macau University of Tourism (UTM). They introduced the concept of sustainable seafood to representatives from around 50 SMEs, providing guidance on sustainable procurement and support for fishery improvement projects.
Wynn said that since the launch of its SME support program at the beginning of last year, it has recognized the operational needs of its long-term partner companies and selected the first batch of support targets that meet the program criteria from a large number of excellent local SME contenders. These include Macau brands, Macau products, and SMEs with international certifications or local production facilities. Wynn said it would discuss solutions for improvement with the selected SMEs and provide them with the necessary equipment to boost quality.
Linda Chen, President and Vice Chairman of the Board of Wynn Macau, Limited, said, “Wynn is pleased to continue supporting the development of local SMEs with whom we share a common business philosophy. We believe that by constantly striving to boost competitiveness, this will lead to greater brand awareness and elevate quality to even higher levels. Wynn hopes that with this Equipment Improvement Program, we can fully optimize the productivity of SMEs, raise professional standards, while also empowering SMEs to expand their businesses, create more employment opportunities, and contribute to the moderate diversification of Macau’s economy.”
According to Wynn, nearly 1,000 SMEs have attended its procurement cooperation fairs since 2023. In 1Q24, Wynn’s procurement from local SMEs saw an 84% increase compared to the same period in 2023, with purchases from three types of local businesses – Small and Micro Enterprises, “Made in Macau” companies and Macao Young Entrepreneurs – growing by 86% over 2023. This data also shows that the three types of local businesses are producing higher quality products and that both individuals and companies are continuously enhancing their competitive edge, Wynn said.
