  • “Oxfam Rice Charity Sale 2024” raised over MOP 570,000 in Macau.
  • The funds raised will support smallholder farmers struggling with poverty, combatting extreme weather, improving their livelihoods and ultimately escaping poverty.

The “Oxfam Rice Charity Sale 2024”, organized by Oxfam, was recently held across various districts in Macau, attracting participation from over 500 volunteers and raising more than MOP 570,000.

Eight rice stalls were set up in different locations around Macau. Oxfam explained that this year’s event was themed “Fight Climate Change, Empower Smallholder Farmers”, aiming to raise awareness and funds by selling Oxfam rice and related products.

All proceeds will be used to support impoverished smallholder farmers in acquiring farming skills, including advanced agricultural and livestock breeding techniques, as well as providing disaster-resistant seeds. Through disaster prevention training, the program aims to enhance smallholders’ disaster awareness and their ability to adapt to climate change. Additionally, it will advocate for the government to invest more resources in smallholders, improving rural infrastructure and public services such as healthcare, transportation and education.

This year, Oxfam once again partnered with Medialink Group and its represented iconic French literary work, The Little Prince, to launch Oxfam rice featuring The Little Prince design and a limited-edition embroidered eco-friendly bag.

Oxfam is an international poverty alleviation organization dedicated to building a “World Without Poverty” through policy advocacy, community poverty reduction and humanitarian aid. Oxfam’s Macau office, established in February 2012, not only strives to implement poverty alleviation and advocacy work globally but also actively invests resources in Macau, nurturing young people to become global citizens and work together to change the injustices that lead to poverty.

Oxfam has long been concerned with the livelihoods of smallholder farmers worldwide and has launched smallholder development projects in mainland China, other developing countries in Asia, and East African nations.
