Macau Tower hosts 11th Oxfam TowerRun fundraising event in October

  • The 11th Oxfam TowerRun at Macau Tower saw more than 400 people take part.
  • Funds raised will be used to support Oxfam’s child development programs in Guizhou, Gansu and Shaanxi.

Organized by Oxfam, the 11th “Oxfam TowerRun” fundraising event was held in late October at the Macau Tower. This year, over 300 participants registered to compete in the Half Tower 31 floors, Full-Tower 61 floors, and the “Relay Team Challenge”.

Over the past 11 editions, the event has raised nearly MOP 4.7 million in total. The theme of this year’s event, “Running for Left-behind Children – A New Hope”, aimed to support Oxfam’s child development projects in Guizhou, Gansu, Shaanxi and other regions, helping left-behind children improve their life skills and grow up healthily.

Michael Wong, Director of Fundraising and Communications at Oxfam Hong Kong, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support from all sectors, which contributed to the event’s success. He especially thanked the runners, noting that every step they took directly helped Oxfam advance its poverty alleviation programs and advocacy efforts, bringing hope and empowerment to impoverished communities.

This year marks the second time that the “Oxfam TowerRun” has been officially recognized as an international tower-running event. The race is certified as a 120-point race by both the Towerrunning World Association and the Asia Vertical Marathon Association (AVA), establishing the event as one of Macau’s premier annual sports tourism events.

For the first time, this year’s finisher medals featured a wooden design with artwork created by left-behind children printed on the back, adding special meaning to the medals. On the event day, a variety of activities were also available to the public, including game booths, a vegetarian charity sale and workshops, all free to attend.
