Galaxy Continues Long-term Commitment to Responsible Gaming Initiatives

Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) was the first integrated resort operator to establish a dedicated responsible gaming team in Macau – and it shows.

The company has been consistently promoting responsible gaming (RG) to its team members and the community for many years through various initiatives. GEG cooperates with government departments and other organizations and groups, seeking to enhance customer protection, promote stakeholder awareness and education, and minimize gambling-related harm to the community.

On 8 March, GEG invited the Gaming Industry Employees Home and The Chinese Society for Sandplay Therapy (CSST) to host a workshop promoting responsible gaming among its team members. Galaxy is the first gaming operator to promote responsible gaming and mental health to team members through sandplay experience – a form of therapy that allows people to portray feelings that may be difficult to express in words. Through the game and instructor explanations, team members learnt to recognize emotional states from multiple perspectives, aiming to reduce gambling addiction risk and encouraging them to seek help proactively. This is the first time CSST has worked with gaming operators targeting team members.

During Chinese New Year, Galaxy held a series of roadshows titled “Stay Sensible with Festive Fun”. These were held in back-of-house areas to share responsible gaming information with over 2,000 GEG team members.

At the “Responsible Gambling Promotions 2022” closing ceremony held in December, both Galaxy Macau and StarWorld were awarded “Responsible Gambling Model Units” accreditation medals. This followed field reviews to the two resorts from the Working Group on Responsible Gambling executive unit, which is comprised of various government departments such as the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) and the Social Welfare Bureau (IAS). During the reviews responsible gaming ambassadors from the two Galaxy resorts explained various RG procedures adopted by the company.

Galaxy is to be commended for their consistent and determined approach in addressing the importance of responsible gaming for well over a decade.
