- GEG organized three study tours for students from the “Youth Science and Technology Village” program.
- The Program has been a collaboration between GEG, the Education and Youth Development Bureau, and the Macao Science Center since 2023.
GEG recently hosted a three-day educational tour for “Youth Science and Technology Village” participants. The tour included visits to Galaxy Macau integrated resort and the Galaxy International Convention Center (GICC), showcasing both leisure and MICE facilities alongside technology-based interactive experiences. Representatives from GEG’s various departments explained the fundamentals of technology operation, providing students with a more comprehensive understanding of how technological innovations are applied in the integrated resort industry.
One of the highlights of the tours was the unique opportunity for students to observe the Diamond Show at Galaxy Macau’s Diamond Lobby and gain exclusive access to the usually off-limits back-of-house areas. This allowed for a closer examination of the operational systems behind various performance installations, such as a towering 3-meter diamond, spotlights, and fountains. Students under the guidance of GEG’s Facility Management professionals gained a deep understanding of intricate design and internal mechanics through simulation facilities, broadening their technological perspective.
Lao Lok Iao, a participant, expressed gratitude to GEG for co-organizing the “Youth Science and Technology Village” program and hosting this study tour for her to learn about scientific and technological knowledge and applications in various aspects through different channels. She remarked, “Visiting the inner mechanics of the Diamond Show was an unparalleled experience. It’s a rare opportunity to delve into the engineering behind what is usually only admired from a distance. This experience, combined with my academic learning, has enriched my understanding of how programming is used to manage such complex facilities, broadening my view on technology and positively influencing my future in engineering.”
Additionally, GEG’s Entertainment Operations Department’s audio-visual and network experts provided a captivating demonstration of the programmable LED ceiling at the GICC exhibition hall. They explained the principles of lighting and color-coding systems, encouraging students to manipulate the ceiling’s colors and imagery. This hands-on activity was designed to solidify theoretical knowledge of science and technology, enhancing the learning experience through practical application. The session saw active participation and inquiry from students, fostering a rich academic atmosphere.
To broaden their understanding further, students visited several state-of-the-art facilities, including the chiller plants in the back-of-house area at Galaxy Macau, the Galaxy Arena, and the Galaxy Auditorium.
GEG has been dedicated to promoting youth science education in various ways over the years. The “Youth Science and Technology Village” Science and Technology Talent Training Program has been a collaboration between GEG, the Education and Youth Development Bureau, and the Macao Science Center since 2023. It brings together key national laboratories, tech enterprises, higher education institutions and local organizations to provide three-year professional training for 100 local high school students with aptitude in technology, establishing a solid foundation for their future careers in technology.
