Wynn Macau hosted the “International Wine Challenge (IWC) A Feast in Honor of Award-Winning Sakes” in early August.
This marks the fourth time Wynn has hosted an IWC sake event. The company says that the event “demonstrates Wynn’s dedication to hosting a wide spectrum of international gastronomic events in Macau, gathering global key thought leaders from the food and beverage industry and top Japanese breweries to the ‘Creative City of Gastronomy’ while providing an exceptional platform to foster conversations and exchange of knowledge and expertise.
The two-day event featured an award-winning Sake Masterclass, Walkaround Tasting session and exquisite sake-paired dining experiences, including the Champion Sake Dinner and IWC Trophy Champion Sake Gala Dinner.
The masterclasses were led by renowned sake professional and director of Japan Sommelier Association (JSA), Atsuhide Hoshiyama, who guided enthusiasts and culinary professionals through tastings of the nine sakes awarded the IWC 2024 Trophy Awards, while sharing his insights and valuable knowledge.
The tasting event welcomed representatives from nine Japanese sake breweries, who presented their IWC 2024 Trophy sakes, along with some of their private selections. The highlight of the event was the presentation of the IWC Champion Sake 2024 winner – Miyakobijin Yaiyou, a Junmai Ginjo produced by Miyakobijin Shuzo Co Ltd from the Hyogo prefecture.
The two gala dinners were meticulously prepared by Executive Chef Hiroki Maeda of Mizumi at Wynn Palace, Executive Chef Chan Tak Kwong of Wing Lei at Wynn Macau, and Wynn’s professional sommeliers, offering guests a dual experience of award-winning sakes paired with exquisite Japanese and Chinese cuisine.
The IWC introduced the sake competition in 2007, and it has since become one of the largest and most influential sake competitions held outside Japan, providing an international platform for promoting sake.
