MGM Cotai recently hosted “The First MGM Cup: Greater Bay Area High School History Knowledge Competition”, sponsored by MGM and organized by the Macao Association for Historical Education.
The event invited teams from 32 high schools across Macau, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai and the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. The competition focused on Chinese historical knowledge and excellent traditional Chinese culture, especially Lingnan culture, with categories for junior and senior high school students.
After intense competition, Keang Peng School from Macau finished first, Shenzhen Haiyun School second and Hou Kong Middle School from Macau third in the junior category. Macau Baptist College, Ying Wa College from Hong Kong and Zhuhai No.1 High School won the senior division’s top honors, respectively.
On the day following the competition, MGM organized a cultural and historical tour for the participants. The students visited numerous World Heritage sites in Macau and the Macao Museum to gain a deeper understanding of Macau’s historical and cultural layers. Additionally, led by MGM’s art docents, they explored an exhibition at the Poly MGM Museum dedicated to the Maritime Silk Road, enhancing their knowledge of this significant ancient trade route. The tour also included a visit to the Barra District, known for its shipbuilding heritage.
Kenneth Feng, President and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, said, “MGM remains committed to the transmission and innovation of culture and education. We hope this event will foster connections between students in the Greater Bay Area, help them build strong bonds with each other, and deepen their appreciation for Lingnan culture. We hope the competition can spark an enduring interest in history among the students, encouraging them to continue exploring their cultural roots and strengthening their sense of national pride.”
