- The Sustainable Development Association held a “Sustainable Development and Innovation Cross-Sector Forum” in Hong Kong.
- The event focused on four key topics, including the internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine, sustainable applications of AI, low-carbon transformation in the food and beverage industry and the integration of cultural heritage with the health and wellness industry.
The “Sustainable Development and Innovation Cross-Sector Forum,” organized by the Sustainable Development Association, was recently held at the Wheelock Gallery in Admiralty at the Hong Kong Science Park.
Under the theme “Technology Empowering Sustainability, Cross-Sector Collaboration for a New Future,” the forum brought together experts, scholars and entrepreneurs from the social enterprise, technology, cultural tourism and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) sectors, creating an exchange platform for community and cross-border collaboration.
The event focused on four key topics: the internationalization of TCM, sustainable applications of AI, low-carbon transformation in the food and beverage industry, and the integration of cultural heritage with the health and wellness industry. Representatives from organizations including the Hong Kong Biotechnology Organization, AMITCM and Fook La La shared cases and perspectives, exploring how to connect resources and build innovative partnerships to drive sustainable transformation across the Greater Bay Area and beyond.
The forum also featured a session on “Cultural Sustainability,” highlighting how cross-border education and platform development can engage younger generations in cultural heritage preservation, while promoting the integration of TCM culture with the wellness and healthcare industry.
In the second half of the forum, the sub-forum on AI sustainability became a major highlight. Brendon Clark, representing Electric Mind, and the Association’s Executive Director Judy Wong, discussed AI’s role in environmental governance and resource optimization, as well as challenges such as computing power consumption and data security.
The closing segment centered on food waste research. Dr Muhammad Bashir Saidu, co-founder of the Association, and collab researcher Rana Elromh used high-traffic settings such as Macau resorts as examples, advocating the establishment of community laboratories to explore the upcycling of food waste and sustainable business models.
