Galaxy Macau hosted the 10th Malaysian Cultural and Food Festival in July, presenting the largest-scale Malaysian event in Macau. This year’s food festival was particularly special as it coincided with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia. The event received support from the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Consulate General of Malaysia in Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR.
The event continued the annual Malaysian-themed buffet dinner at Oasis at Galaxy Hotel, featuring 10 renowned chefs from Malaysia demonstrating their culinary skills. There were also 10 hawker-style live stations cooking up delicious street food, bringing over 40 traditional Malaysian delicacies. To prepare for the festival, the organizers transported over 5,000 kilograms of more than 50 types of Malaysian spices directly to Macau, along with carefully selected top-quality fresh durians weighing over five tons which were airlifted from Malaysia.
Additionally, Galaxy Macau created Macau’s first Malaysia-themed pop-up market at its East Square, transforming the venue into a “Mini Malaysia”. The market featured popular Malaysian specialties and local cultural and creative products. Throughout the festival, famous Malaysian dance troupes were invited to perform traditional dances in ethnic costumes at various locations within Galaxy Macau, showcasing the diverse and vibrant Malaysian culture and allowing visitors to experience the charm of Malaysia in the heart of Macau.
Roger Lienhard, Executive Vice President – Hospitality of Galaxy Macau, said, “This year’s Malaysian Food Festival is a key event organized by Galaxy Macau in support of the Macau SAR Government’s efforts to deepen cross-sector integration and strengthen the synergy between ‘tourism + gastronomy’.
“I believe the deep bond between Macau and Malaysia will shine brightly here, allowing visitors to enjoy delicious food while celebrating the profound connection between the two places. We are committed to deepening cross-sector integration under the Macau SAR Government’s ‘Tourism+’ framework in the future.”
