Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) has launched a series of Chinese New Year events, including community initiatives and festive activities, engaging residents, visitors and team members in the celebrations.
On 4 February led by Mr Francis Lui, Chairman of GEG, GEG’s senior executives including Mr Philip Cheng, Director; Ms Eileen Lui, Group Director of Human Resources and Administration; Mr Kevin Kelley, Chief Operating Officer – Macau; Mr Raymond Kwok, Senior Director of Legal; Mr Richard Longhurst, Senior Director of Gaming; Mr Edmond Ting, Director of Project Development; Mr Elmen Lee, Director of Integrated Resort Services and other members gathered for the traditional worship and eye-dotting ceremonies held at the Porte Cochère of Galaxy Macau’s Diamond Lobby and StarWorld Hotel. The lion dance performance, accompanied by drums and firecrackers, created a lively and festive atmosphere that attracted many visitors.
Community care activities add warmth to the festive season
A key highlight of this year’s celebrations is the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards Spring Market, co-organized by GEG and the Industry and Commerce Federation of Islands of Macao. GEG invited nearly 200 members from Caritas Macau, the Macau Deaf Association, the Macau Special Olympics and the Areia Preta Community Service Centre of the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau (UGAMM) to experience the event and its festive atmosphere. Among them, GEG hosted a special Spring Market tour for elderly members of Caritas Macau. Mr Pun Chi Meng, Executive Director of the Caritas Macau, and Mr Buddy Lam, Director of Corporate Affairs of GEG, graced the event with their presence.
Accompanied by representatives from GEG’s Public Relations Department, GEG Volunteers and their family members, guests explored the area’s high-tech amenities, including augmented reality animations and interactive 3D displays cabinets, which provided insights into Macau’s shipbuilding history in an immersive format. They also visited local cultural and creative stalls, played festive-themed games and enjoyed live music performances. GEG representatives, along with the God of Fortune and Wavey the Peacock of Galaxy Kidz, presented them with festive turnip cakes, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere.
Earlier, GEG volunteers and students from the “Youth Science and Technology Village” program participated in the “Technological Support for Senior Living Alone” event under the “GEG Community Caring Program” organized by the “Peng On Tung” Tele-assistance Service and title-sponsored by GEG for the ninth consecutive year. Participants received training in assistive technology design, learned communication skills with the elderly and were instructed on the use of the “Peng On Tung” emergency call system. As part of the initiative, they visited 60 elderly residents to understand their needs and offer New Year greetings. Through such initiatives, GEG aims to foster a culture of social care and intergenerational support.
Team celebrations to welcome the New Year
GEG also hosted a range of Chinese New Year celebrations for team members at its back-of-house areas. Organized by the Human Resources and Administration Department, activities included festive calligraphy, interactive booth games and traditional CNY dining experiences in staff canteens.
Additionally, GEG collaborated with the Youth Volunteer Association of Macao to launch “GEG Presents: ‘Fortune Turns the Wheel, Rational Play’ Responsible Gaming CNY Roadshow”. Through interactive games and professional guidance, the event promoted responsible gaming awareness, encouraging team members and their families to maintain a rational and balanced approach to entertainment during the festive season. More than 3,200 team members took part in the initiative.
Spring Market and Float Parade enhance festive atmosphere
The Spring Market at Lai Chi Vun Shipyards featured over 15 local SME cultural and creative stalls offering Macau-style New Year gifts. The market also included live music performances, DIY New Year decoration workshops and appearances by the God of Fortune, who distributed lucky New Year gift bags, further enhancing the community’s festive spirit.
As a leading partner of the “Parade for Celebration of the Year of the Snake,” organized by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), GEG participated in the float parade on the third day of CNY. The float, inspired by the “Gold Snake” theme, and accompanied by captivating performances, showcased Macau’s unique “Tourism + Festivities” appeal, further promoting the city’s vibrant New Year atmosphere. The second parade will take place on the 11th day of CNY.
