GEG advances multiple environmental initiatives, supporting sustainable development in Macau through green operations

  • GEG supported the “National Event on World Environment Day 2026 and Beautiful China Promotion Week (Macau Program).”
  • GEG is the first integrated tourism and leisure enterprise in Macau to adopt a circular upcycling model for landscape resources.

Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) promoted a series of environmental initiatives in June, spanning energy saving and carbon reduction, resource upcycling, sustainable gastronomy, environmental education, talent development and sustainable hotel certification, demonstrating the company’s long-term commitment to green operations.

As part of its support for the “National Event on World Environment Day 2026 and Beautiful China Promotion Week (Macau Program)” – organized by the Environmental Protection Bureau of the Macao SAR Government – GEG took part in the launch ceremony for the World Environment Day initiatives and the “Energy Saving and Carbon Reduction for All Campaign,” held in early June.

All proceeds from its plastic bag fee this year went to the Fuhong Society of Macau, supporting the social enterprise “Happy Market” to develop related recycling projects while helping provide more diversified vocational training opportunities for persons with disabilities and promoting environmental sustainability alongside social inclusion.

GEG also this year continued its support of the “Lights Out One Hour” and “Dress Light ∙ Save Energy” campaigns, with all GEG properties switching off non-essential exterior lighting for one hour on 5 June, World Environment Day. The Group also encouraged back-of-house team members to wear lightweight clothing during the summer and maintain office temperatures at 25°C or above, putting into practice energy-saving and carbon-reduction measures through everyday operations.

Macau’s first “Landscape Resources Upcycling Program” has also been pioneered by GEG, becoming the first integrated tourism and leisure enterprise in Macau to adopt a circular upcycling model for landscape resources. In collaboration with local environmental technology SME Chazence, the program recycles and repurposes landscape resources generated across GEG’s properties, further supporting the development of the local circular economy.

Leisure legacy built on sustainability
GEG partnered with the Macao University of Tourism (UTM) to co-host the 11th Tourism Education Student Summit. GEG representatives participated as keynote speakers, sharing their professional insights and industry perspectives with students on the topics of sustainable tourism and eco-gastronomy.

GEG also promoted healthy living and environmental awareness by supporting Sustainable Gastronomy Day, inviting families from the Women’s Federation Outlying Islands Family Service Station to Galaxy Kidz Edutainment Center for an interactive workshop. The experience combined physical activity with sustainable dining experiences to help children develop healthy habits and deepen their understanding of environmental protection.

Topping the rankings
GEG’s achievements in sustainable development across the hotel and MICE sectors also received further recognition. In the latest round of EarthCheck certifications, Banyan Tree Macau received certification for the 10th consecutive year and advanced to Platinum Certification, becoming the first hotel in Macau to receive this distinction.
